CASA DO VALLE is the manor house of the Estate which produces the Vinho Verde with the same name.
The Quinta, property of the Sousa Botelho family, is located in Basto sub-region, part of the Vinho VerdeRegion – North of Portugal.
With a total area of 170 ha, of wich 55 ha are under vines, Casa do Valle is one of the largest production Quintas in the Vinho Verde Region, using exclusively grapes produced in the property.
Winemaking here goes back to the 18th century, with the contrast between the “enforcado” ( vines going up trees ) and “ramada” (trellis) systems for the red grapes and the modern single wire system, still used till this day, for the white grapes.
The noble grape varieties used for the white wines are the Azal, Arinto, Loureiro and Alvarinho. For red and rosé wines the grape varieties are the Vinhão, the most important red grape variety of the Vinho Verde Region, the Rabo de Ovelha and Sousão.
The first bottling of the brand “Casa do Valle” was in 1989, a white blend of Azal and Arinto and the red wine with Vinhão and Rabo de Ovelha. In 1992 we bottled the first Rosé wine in the Vinho Verde Region with the geographical designation of «Vinho Regional Minho». Since 1999, we have been bottling varietal wines like Azal, Arinto, Loureiro and Vinhão.
Casa do Valle began exporting wines in the early 90’s. The first destination was France but, nowadays, we export to Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Poland, Spain, United Kingdom, United States, amongst others.
Particularly important are the chapel of the manor house and the Granary with its stone roof which is mentioned in tourist guides, and also other traditional and typical buildings of the region.
The superior quality of the CASA DO VALLE wine is the result of, not only the favourable conditions which the noble regional grape varieties encounter on this estate, but also of the passionate commitment of the Sousa Botelho family to winemaking.
